Have a Nice Day Tournament Recap

Did you miss a game at the 2023 Have a Nice Day tournament? We have the details of all games courtesy of Aidan Hofstedt. Read on for a recap of the games you missed:

Minnesota Nice vs. North Star Roller Derby

The tournament’s opening game featured Minnesota Nice (ranked #28 in the WFTDA North America Northeast region) taking on crosstown rival North Star Roller Derby’s Supernovas (#38). Minnesota took the first jam 2-0, then Skatey Gaga erupted for a 12-0 jam to give MNRD an early 14-0 lead. Two jams later, North Star responded with Jim Rat putting up a 12-point jam of her own to cut it to an 18-12 Minnesota lead. This was followed by 4-3 and 10-7 jams in favor of North Star, bringing them back within 2. In the next jam, North Star’s Slim Sadie used a power jam to her advantage, winning the jam 4-1 and giving North Star their first lead of the night, 30-29. A 2-0 jam stretched the lead to 32-29, but Minnesota’s Ginger Snap came back with an 8-0 power jam of her own to regain a 5-point lead. T-Wrecks then won a 6-0 jam despite being sent to the box herself, bringing the lead to 43-32. Slim Sadie would get lead jammer on the next jam, but that was short-lived as she was sent to the box. That gave Lefse 4 Dead the opportunity to score 12 points, and despite Slim Sadie’s 3, MNRD had their largest lead up to that point at 55-39.

Minnesota sensed an opportunity to run away with the bout early, as North Star would start the next jam 2 skaters short. However, Jim Rat would get lead jammer and a 14-8 jam to bring the Supernovas back within 10. They kept their momentum going after that, with 2 more lead jams in a row. The first was cut short due to Minnesota jammer Skatey Gaga losing a wheel, but Katarina Hit would take an 8-0 jam with the second to bring North Star within 2. T-Wrecks would follow with a much-needed 4-0 jam to give MNRD a little more breathing room. Jim Rat would follow with a 7-4 jam against Fanny Smack to inch closer to taking the lead, but that would be followed by a 5-0 power jam from Lefse 4 Dead to re-establish an 8-point Minnesota lead. They would begin the next jam with a power jam, but Skatey Gaga was sent to the box, giving Sassberry a power jam of her own. She took full advantage, scoring 16 points, and even 7 from Skatey Gaga couldn’t prevent North Star from taking an 84-83 lead. However, Minnesota retook the lead when T-Wrecks won the next jam 4-0, which would be the final jam of the first half. MNRD led 87-84 at halftime.

Katarina Hit tied the bout at 87 with the first jam of the second half, but Skatey Gaga would regain the lead for Minnesota in the next jam, bringing it to 90-87. T-Wrecks would add 4 more in the following jam, then Fanny Smack won the next jam after that 8-0, and Minnesota suddenly had a 102-87 lead. A scoreless jam, followed by a 3-2 MNRD jam, set up an 11-3 power jam for T-Wrecks to give Minnesota a 116-92 lead, which was the bout’s largest lead at that point. North Star, however, was not quick to give up. Quick 6-0 and 3-0 jams brought the Supernovas back within 15, but that progress would be erased with back-to-back 8-0 jams for Minnesota Nice, the second of which came after Minnesota jammer Poysenberry Pie started in the penalty box.

MNRD entered cruise control from there on out, with North Star failing to score another point for the rest of the bout. After a 0-0 jam, Lefse 4 Dead had a 4-0 jam that was curtailed due to injury, which was followed by an 8-0 Ginger Snap jam that saw both jammers commit penalties (with North Star’s Jim Rat going to the box twice). In the game’s final jam, North Star would again have a jammer commit 2 penalties (this time Sassberry), and Fanny Smack would score 4 points to give Minnesota Nice a 181-135 victory over their rivals from Minneapolis.

Madison Roller Derby: The Herd vs. Flint Roller Derby

Friday’s second and final matchup featured the Herd from Madison Roller Derby (#41 North America Northeast) taking on Flint Roller Derby (#36), who came into the bout undefeated in 2023. The first jam was scoreless, and Flint’s Anna Maniac opened the scoring with an 8-0 power jam in the next jam. After that, another Madison lead jam was held to 0-0 before Duncan scored 10 points for Flint and gave them an 18-0 lead. Anna Maniac would extend the lead to 22-0 before Flint got another power jam. Helen Wheels scored 12, however Dil-emma put Madison on the board with 3 points. Madison still trailed 34-3, and it would continue to get worse. The Herd began the next jam with Dil-emma in the box again, and her 8 points could not keep up with Duncan’s 15. Flint won the next 2 jams, each by a score of 12-8, to further extend the lead to 73-27. Flint was nowhere near done, either.

The next jam featured penalties from both jammers, but Flint kept extending the lead with an 8-6 jam. The next two jams were close: 8-8, followed by 8-7 for Flint. However, Duncan would capitalize on a power jam to win the next one 8-0, before Domme Sawyer erupted for a 16-0 jam to give Flint a massive 117-48 lead. Madison’s Radiosmacktive won back a bit of respectability for the Herd in the next jam, as her 12-4 jam was the first time that Madison outscored Flint in a jam all night. The teams then traded 1-point jam victories, with Flint outscoring Madison 4-3 before the Herd returned the favor 7-6. In the final jam of the half, Helen Wheels won an 8-4 jam to give Flint a 139-74 halftime lead.

Flint picked up right where they left off in the second half. Helen Wheels led off with a 4-0 jam, followed by a big 17-8 jam from Gigi Spitfire. Another quick 3-0 jam brought the lead to 163-82. Beryl Roller would take the next jam 5-0 for Madison, however, which was the first time all bout that Madison scored while simultaneously shutting out Flint. The joy would not last long, as Gigi Spitfire rattled off another massive jam, this time 24-8 against Radiosmacktive, to bring Flint’s lead up to 187-95. They then had back-to-back 4-4 jams, followed by another huge jam from Gigi Spitfire, this time 18-8. The next jam was 7-4 for Anna Maniac against Radiosmacktive, bringing the score to 220-118 for Flint. Then, Gigi Spitfire had another big jam, 19-15 against Darkhorse. However, she picked up 2 penalties in that jam, bringing her total up to 7, which meant that she fouled out of the bout.

Her second penalty happened right at the 2-minute mark of the jam, which led to a bizarre situation since Madison’s jammer, Darkhorse, was already in the box. The next jam began with both jammers in the box, and Darkhorse was released with the whistle to begin the jam. She had a 14-8 jam, which kickstarted a small rally for the Herd. The next two jams were 4-0 and 6-0, respectively, both in favor of Madison. Another close jam, this time 4-3 in favor of Flint, brought the score to 265-160 late in the second half. Then, Flint completely slammed the door. Duncan started the next jam with a power jam, and scored 12 while holding Dil-emma scoreless. The next jam was 4-0 for Anna Maniac, then Helen Wheels scored 8 in the following jam while Madison’s Wolframmer committed her 7th penalty of the bout, causing her to foul out. Anna Maniac would close the bout with another 8-0 jam, bringing the final score to 297-160 for Flint. That extended their impressive 2023 record to 5-0 before their showdown with Minnesota Nice early Saturday morning.

Minnesota Nice vs. Flint Roller Derby

Saturday’s 5-game slate opened with a showdown between Minnesota Nice (#28 North America Northeast) and Flint Roller Derby (#36). Flint came into the bout undefeated on the year, while Minnesota had only 1 loss back in June. The teams met on one previous occasion, a 153-119 MNRD victory in June 2019. This time around, Flint took the first jam 4-2, with Minnesota jammer BooBoo being penalized twice. Flint started the next jam on a power jam, but Anna Maniac could only score 3 points. Minnesota’s Wheelie Nelson then got a 3-0 jam of her own to bring it back to a 2-point bout before Fanny Smack took advantage of 2 penalties from Flint jammer Duncan to score 8 points in the next jam. Duncan’s 3 points couldn’t prevent Minnesota from taking their first lead of the day, 13-10. MNRD added to it on the next jam with a 4-0 from Ginger Snap. Flint answered back with a 1-0 jam, but that was followed by a penalty-filled 12-4 jam by Wheelie Nelson to bring the score up to 29-15 in favor of Minnesota. Fanny Smack added 5 more before a high-scoring 12-11 jam went in favor of Flint and Duncan, but MNRD answered back with a 4-0 jam to bring the lead up to 49-27.

Flint’s Helen Wheels came with a 4-0 of her own, but that was followed by Minnesota’s biggest jam of the morning. Wheelie Nelson scored 20 to Gigi Spitfire’s 6 to bring the Minnesota advantage to 69-37. Gigi Spitfire also committed 2 penalties in that jam, bringing her total up to 6 already. Since she only needed 1 more to foul out, she was not on the track for the rest of the half. However, Flint responded very well. They took two 2-point jam wins (2-0 and 8-6, respectively) and a 4-0 from Helen Wheels before a massive jam of their own. Domme Sawyer erupted for a 24-4 jam to bring Flint back within striking distance, 79-75. The teams then had back-to-back 0-0 jams before Minnesota and Fanny Smack ended the half with an 8-7 jam against Tabbycatt. Minnesota Nice led at halftime by a score of 87-82.

Flint picked up right where they left off in the second half. Domme Sawyer opened with an 8-4 jam, followed by Gigi Spitfire taking advantage of a power jam to score 10 to MNRD’s 1, giving Flint the lead at 100-92. This was Flint’s first lead since very early in the bout. Minnesota’s T-Wrecks cut the lead in half with a 4-0 jam, but Helen Wheels followed that up with a 3-0. The teams split the next jam 4-4, then Anna Maniac scored 3 more to bring the score to 110-100. However, this was followed by an 8-0 power jam from T-Wrecks to cut the lead back down to 2, while Gigi Spitfire picked up her 7th penalty of the bout to foul out for the second day in a row. The next jam was 4-4, then Domme Sawyer had a 19-3 jam to bring Flint’s lead to 133-115. Anna Maniac followed that up with a 4-0 jam to further extend the lead.

Flint had two more solid jams in a row, 3-0 and 6-0 respectively. However, MNRD tried to mount a comeback. Ginger Snap scored 11 to Anna Maniac’s 3 to cut the lead to 149-126. That was short-lived, as 4-0 and 6-1 jams by Flint kept the Michigan team firmly in control. The next jam was a highlight for Minnesota, as Shadoux started the jam in the box, but came out and scored 8 points to cut the scoreline to 161-135. Still, Flint was back at it in the next jam, when Helen Wheels had a 16-4 power jam. The next jam was also high-scoring, as Domme Sawyer outscored Ginger Snap 15-12 to extend the Flint lead to 192-151. Despite MNRD winning the final jam 9-4, Flint took an impressive 196-160 victory to extend their 2023 record to 6-0.

Madison Roller Derby: The Herd vs. North Star Roller Derby

The second bout on Saturday featured the Herd from Madison Roller Derby (#41 North America Northeast) against the Supernovas from North Star Roller Derby (#38). North Star was looking for their first win of 2023. Their first jam got off to a shaky start, with jammer Katarina Hit sent to the penalty box, but Madison’s Radiosmacktive was sent to the box twice for North Star to take advantage of the power jam, 8-1. The Supernovas then got three consecutive 8-0 jams to bring their lead up to 32-1. The next jam was slightly better for Madison, with North Star’s Slim Sadie only scoring 7, bringing the total to 39-1. Madison’s Quilla DeVille quadrupled her team’s score in the following jam, but North Star still scored 12 to make the score a dominating 51-4. Beryl Roller then got the Herd’s first lead jam of the day, which turned into the first jam that Madison won all day, 8-3.

North Star answered by stealing a 4-0 when Madison had the lead jammer, then the teams battled to a 12-12 jam where each jammer spent time in the penalty box. North Star scored 12 more in the next jam via Katarina Hit, but Madison was held scoreless, bringing the score to 82-24. The Herd then won a high-scoring jam 19-11, which was followed by an 8-4 jam in favor of North Star. The next jam was 0-0, which was the first jam all game in which the Supernovas were shut out. Madison won the next jam 10-7, but it was back to business as usual when Sassberry had an 11-0 jam for North Star to extend the lead to 119-57. This was followed by a massive 20-0 jam from Katarina Hit. They then had a 2-0 jam, followed by a 12-0 from Sassberry to put North Star up 153-57 at halftime.

The second half started as more of the same, with 4 points from Katarina Hit extending the lead to an even 100 points over the Herd. The next jam was 6-6, then the Supernovas won the next two by 4 points each (7-3 and 4-0, respectively). North Star then had a 5-0 jam before Sassberry scored 8 to bring the lead to 187-66. That was followed by another 5-0 and 8-0, with the 8 coming from Slim Sadie this time. It only got worse for Madison after that, with Sassberry scoring 16 and Katarina Hit scoring 12, while the Herd were held scoreless in both jams. A quick 4-0 brought the score to 232-66 before Beryl Roller finally put an end to Madison’s drought with a 7-4 jam.

However, they were unable to take advantage of the stop in North Star’s momentum, as Slim Sadie was right back at it with a 15-0 jam. This was followed by a Madison power jam that was still won by North Star, with the 8-4 jam bringing the total to 267-77. The next jam was very high-scoring, with Katarina Hit scoring 19 to Dil-emma’s 16. After that was another jam that went the full two minutes, an 8-3 jam for North Star where both jammers were penalized twice. The next jam was 0-0, then the Supernovas closed out the bout with another 8-3 to bring the final score to 302-99. It was the first bout in which North Star cracked 300 since a 406-152 win over the DC Rollergirls in 2018.

North Star Roller Derby vs. Flint Roller Derby

Game 3 on Saturday pitted undefeated Flint Roller Derby (#36 North America Northeast) against North Star Roller Derby’s Supernovas (#38). North Star started off with an 8-0 power jam from Sassberry, and that lead was quickly extended to 11-0 by Slim Sadie. Flint got on the board with 4 points in the next jam, but North Star also scored 4 to keep an 11-point lead. The Supernovas then got a 4-0 jam from Sassberry. That was followed by a 2-0 from Flint’s Anna Maniac, which was the first jam where North Star was held scoreless. Flint got settled in, taking a 4-0 before a scoreless jam for both sides. Flint’s Helen Wheels then scored 12 on a power jam, and Slim Sadie’s 4 in that same jam were the only things keeping North Star in the lead, 23-22. Needing a good jam to stop Flint’s momentum, Katarina Hit delivered. She stole a 4-0 jam to push the lead to 5, then North Star’s defense took over. A 0-0 jam was followed up by back-to-back 4-0 jams to give the Supernovas more breathing space at 35-22.

After that, the teams fought to a 3-3 jam, then Helen Wheels scored 4 to bring Flint to within single digits. After that, the teams traded big jams, with Katarina Hit scoring 12 for North Star before Anna Maniac got 8 for Flint. Flint began the next jam with a power jam, but failed to capitalize and lost it 6-0. Two more low-scoring North Star victories (3-0 and 5-0, respectively) brought the score up to 64-37 in favor of the Supernovas. North Star kept it going after that, with an 11-4 power jam by Katarina Hit before a 4-0 jam from Sassberry to take a 79-41 halftime lead.

North Star started the second half on a power jam, and Sassberry was able to take advantage with an 8-2 jam. Flint came back with a 7-4 jam by Duncan, but a pair of 2-0 jams from North Star made the score 95-50 in favor of the Supernovas. This was followed by two scoreless jams and a 4-0 jam from Sassberry to further extend the lead. However, Duncan exploded with a 20-8 jam for Flint to narrow the gap to 107-70. North Star would follow with a 4-0 jam, but Flint furthered their comeback bid with a 10-0 power jam by Anna Maniac, cutting it to 111-80. The 31-point margin was as narrow as it had been all half. Duncan looked to continue the comeback in the next jam, getting lead jammer but committing a penalty that gave Slim Sadie a power jam. Slim Sadie won the jam 16-4 to re-establish a 43-point North Star lead.

The Supernovas scored 16 again in the next jam, and 12 from Flint in that same jam could not prevent North Star from pulling further away. They won the next two jams by four points each (4-0 and 8-4, respectively) to bring the lead to a game-high 55. After that, Helen Wheels answered with a 14-0 jam to cut it to 155-114. However, in that same jam, Flint’s Gigi Spitfire committed her 7th penalty of the bout to foul out for the third time in three bouts this tournament. Flint made up 2 points in the next jam, 5-3, before a huge 17-0 power jam by Duncan brought them back to 158-136. At that point, Flint was out of timeouts with around a minute and a half to go, meaning the next jam could be the last one. Katarina Hit secured lead jam for the Supernovas, and won it 5-3 before calling it off with no time left on the clock. That gave North Star a 163-139 win and ended Flint’s 11-bout unbeaten run, which dated back to 2019. North Star concluded the tournament with a 2-1 record.

Minnesota Nice vs. Madison Roller Derby: The Herd

The final bout of the round-robin featured Minnesota Nice (#28 North America Northeast) taking on the Herd from Madison Roller Derby (#41). These teams had played each other on 4 previous occasions, with Minnesota coming out on top every time. This bout started off as more of the same, with Wheelie Nelson opening with an 11-0 jam for MNRD despite being sent to the penalty box. Minnesota then had a 4-0 jam before Ginger Snap erupted for a 16-0 jam to give MNRD an early 31-0 lead. That lead was extended to 35-0 before Radiosmacktive put Madison’s first points on the board, still losing that jam 8-4. The next jam was closer yet, only going 4-3 in favor of Minnesota. MNRD was finally shut out in the next jam, where Quilla DeVille scored 4 to cut the lead to 47-11.

However, Minnesota returned to their dominant ways after that. A 7-0 jam from T-Wrecks was followed by a 15-0 jam by Wheelie Nelson despite giving Madison a power jam. Then, Madison got another power jam but was held to a 4-4 jam. The Herd were then outscored despite having the lead jammer, with that 4-3 jam putting Minnesota Nice up 77-18. The next jam was 4-0 in favor of MNRD, which brought the score to 81-18, the only palindrome score of the weekend. T-Wrecks followed that with an 8-0 power jam, which was countered with a 4-0 jam from Madison’s Radiosmacktive. Minnesota’s Skatey Gaga then had a 16-0 power jam in which Dil-emma of Madison was penalized twice. A few lower-scoring jams came next: 4-0 from Madison, followed by a scoreless jam and a 1-0 jam for the Herd. That was the longest Minnesota had been held scoreless all bout. MNRD then got 2 points from BooBoo, and the half ended with an 8-4 Minnesota jam where both jammers were penalized. At halftime, Minnesota Nice led 115-31.

Madison started the second half better than the first, with a 12-8 jam off the strength of Ladie Who-Ha, who’s only bout this weekend was this one. However, that was followed by MNRD’s biggest jam of the night, when Skatey Gaga completed 6 scoring passes en route to a 24-0 jam and a 147-43 lead. Minnesota tacked on 3 more in the next jam, while the jam after that was scoreless. Then, Wheelie Nelson took advantage of a power jam to score 8 and bring the lead to 158-43. The teams split the next jam 4-4, but Minnesota was back at it after that with a 12-0 jam by Ginger Snap. Minnesota then had a 4-1 jam, followed by three consecutive 4-0 jams to make the score 190-48. The next two jams were a combined 1-0 in favor of MNRD, then BooBoo added 8 to take the score up to 199-48.

Madison finally broke their run of scoreless jams with 11 points from Dil-emma, and Ginger Snap’s 10 meant that Madison outscored Minnesota in a jam for the first time since the first jam of the half. The next jam was 8-0 for T-Wrecks, then a 2-0 jam for Madison brought the score to 217-61. MNRD was back at it with the big jams after that, winning 6-0, 12-0, and 8-0 jams to make the score 243-61. Minnesota scored 8 again in the next jam, but Madison scored 4 to end their drought. The next jam would be the final jam of the bout, with both jammers being sent to the box and BooBoo taking it 12-4 for Minnesota, bringing the final score to 263-69. The 194-point differential is the largest ever in the series between Minnesota Nice and the Herd. Minnesota finished the tournament 2-1, while Madison went 0-3 for the weekend.

Minnesota All-Stars vs. Madison Roller Derby: Dairyland Dolls

After their B-teams had faced off, it was time for the All-Stars from Minnesota Roller Derby (#5 North America Northeast) and Madison Roller Derby (#19) to do battle. It was the 11th meeting between the two border rivals, with Minnesota entering with a 7-3 series advantage. The first jam was scoreless, then Nat Splat opened the scoring for Madison with a 6-0 jam. The visitors extended their lead with the 5-4 jam that followed, but the lead would turn out to be short-lived. Fanny Smack took advantage of a power jam to score 10 points and give Minnesota their first lead of the night at 14-11. Triple Shock Latte followed that up with a 6-0 jam, then three straight 4-0 MNRD jams brought the score up to 32-11. Sintripetal Force then exploded for a 16-0 jam, further extending the lead to 37 points.

Darkhorse broke Madison’s scoring drought in the next jam by a 10-4 score, but that would only temporarily stop Minnesota’s momentum. A 4-0 jam by Fanny Smack was followed by a 12-0 power jam from Triple Shock Latte, taking the score to 68-21. They continued to win jam after jam, putting up 4, 7, and 3, respectively, in their next three jams while holding Madison scoreless each time. This brought the scoreline to 82-21 before Thrill Show put Madison back on the board with an 8-point jam. However, the game got no closer as Sintripetal Force scored 24 in the same jam. BooBoo then had an 8-4 power jam for MNRD to bring the lead up to 114-33. Madison’s Darkhorse responded with a 5-0 jam, but a 12-3 jam in favor of Minnesota capped off the half to give MNRD a 126-41 halftime lead.

Minnesota was back to their dominant form in the second half, when Triple Shock Latte began the half with a 7-0 jam. It only got better from there, as a 9-0 Sintripetal Force jam was followed by back-to-back 11-0 jams, by Fanny Smack and Whoopsie Daisy respectively. The next jam was scoreless, leaving the score at 164-41 for Minnesota. Sintripetal Force then added an 11-0 jam, after which Fanny Smack added 7 more to give MNRD a 141-point lead. Madison finally scored their first points of the half in the next jam with a 5-1 jam from Quilla DeVille. The following jam was 1-0 for Minnesota, then Madison had their biggest jam of the half at 8-3. Sintripetal Force came right back with an 8-0 jam to take the score to 195-54. The next two jams were tied (0-0 and 4-4), then Minnesota won the next jam 4-0.

After that, Darkhorse took a 2-0 jam for Madison to make the score 199-60. They split the next jam 4-4, which was followed by a scoreless jam. After that, the teams traded 4-0 jams to bring the scoreline to 207-68. Minnesota proved to have one big jam left in them, as Sintripetal Force erupted for 16 points while keeping Madison scoreless. The bout’s final jam was 3-0 in favor of Madison, making the final score a 223-75 Minnesota victory. Madison’s 75 points were the fewest either team had scored in this series since they were held to 74 way back in 2010, although points could be scored by lapping the opposing jammer until 2018. It was also the fewest points Minnesota had allowed since a 173-71 win over Team Philippines Roller Derby in 2019. With the win, the All-Stars improved to 6-0 on the year before they travel to Waterloo, Ontario, for a tournament on August 19 and 20.

Madison Roller Derby: Dairyland Dolls vs. Flint Roller Derby

Sunday’s only bout featured Flint Roller Derby (#36 North America Northeast) going up against Madison Roller Derby (#19). Flint had beaten Madison’s B-team, the Herd, 297-160 on Friday, but their A-team would be a much tougher test. Madison jumped right out of the gate with an 8-0 jam by Darkhorse. This was followed by a 3-3 jam, then Nat Splat had a 14-6 jam to take Madison’s lead to 25-9. Madison then further extended the lead, with back-to-back 4-0 jams followed by a huge 18-4 jam from Darkhorse to bring the lead up to 51-13. They kept rolling after that as well, taking a 15-10 power jam and an 11-8 jam to extend the lead to 77-31.

Then, Flint’s defense tightened up, holding Radiosmacktive to 2-0 before a quick scoreless jam. However, Madison would get back in control in the following jam, as Darkhorse scored 20 on a power jam, and 3 points for Flint’s Domme Sawyer in that same jam brought the score to 99-35. After that, Nat Splat took advantage of a power jam of her own to score 7 without reply. Madison added a 12-4 jam before Flint’s Helen Wheels got her team’s first lead jam of the day with just over 5 minutes left in the half. That jam, as well as the one following it, ended 4-4. Darkhorse then erupted for a 24-4 jam, before the teams split the next jam 4-4 to conclude a fast-moving first half at 154-55 in favor of Madison.

Darkhorse led off the second with another huge jam, this time 23-11 against Gigi Spitfire. Madison kept their run going in the next jam, as Nat Splat scored 16 to bring the Wisconsinites’ lead to 193-66. Madison won the next jam 8-3 before an 8-8 jam, followed by a 0-0 jam (which ended when a wheel fell off of Madison jammer Beryl Roller’s skate), brought the score to 209-77. Darkhorse then added another massive jam, this time 20-0 when Flint jammer Tabbycatt committed two penalties. Tabbycatt would start the next jam in the box, but was able to outscore Madison for the first jam all morning, 8-4 against Nat Splat. This ignited something of a rally for FIint, with Domme Sawyer adding another 8-4 jam before Helen Wheels scored Flint’s biggest jam of the night, 12-4, to take the score to 241-105. Flint was then able to score their fourth straight jam victory, 10-8, despite jammer Domme Sawyer being sent to the box.

However, the run stopped there, as a 9-0 jam for Beryl Roller brought the score to 258-115 for Madison. The next jam was one last massive jam from Darkhorse, who scored the final 16 of her game-high 129 points. In that same jam, 4 from Roni V. (despite two penalties) took the scoreline to 274-119. The next jam was lower-scoring, with both jammers being penalized en route to a 6-4 jam for Madison. Flint’s Helen Wheels was able to win the next jam 11-7, then Radiosmacktive closed out the bout with a 16-5 jam for Madison. The final score was 305-139 in favor of Madison. The 166-point margin was Madison’s largest victory since a 190-point win over Dub City Roller Derby in the 2018 WFTDA Continental Cup. Madison finished the Have a Nice Day Tournament 1-1, while Flint finished 2-2.
