Land of 10,000 Aches Bout Recap

Bout 1: Bodies of Water vs Roller Vortex

The first bout of the night featured the two winners from October: the Bodies of Water and the Roller Vortex. It started out with a quick 0-0 jam, so the first points came in the second jam, 3-1 to the Roller Vortex. They built on that lead in the following jam, with Lefse 4 Dead taking a hard-fought 4-0 jam that went the full two minutes. The Bodies of Water weren’t quick to give up, though, and got 2 points back in the next jam before an 8-4 jam for Chippa Tooth evened the bout at 11-11 (quite fitting for Veterans Day). Fanny Smack would score 3 in the next jam to give the Bodies their first lead, then the teams alternated 1-0 jams to take the scoreline to 15-12. Lexi Cuter followed with a 4-0 jam to retake the lead for the Vortex, a lead which was expanded upon by Hot SHOCKolate’s 11 in the next jam. At this point, the score stood at 27-15. However, in the next jam, Chippa Tooth put up 20 unanswered points to take back the lead, 35-27. That lead didn’t last long, though, as Battlerina scored 10 on a power jam to give the Vortex a 2-point advantage. Lefse 4 Dead then had a 12-0 power jam, but was sent to the box herself at the end to give the Bodies of Water a power jam in the following jam. However, they failed to capitalize, and Lefse 4 Dead came out of the box to put up 14 without reply, extending the lead to 63-35. Fanny Smack was able to stop the bleeding in the next jam as she scored 2 points to Wheelie Nelson’s 0, then Whoopsie Daisy cut into the lead a little more with a 4-0 jam, making the score 63-41. In the final jam of the half, Chippa Tooth cut the Vortex lead in half with an 11-0 jam, bringing the halftime score to 63-52, still in favor of the Roller Vortex.

Any momentum the Bodies of Water gained at the end of the first half quickly evaporated at the start of the second, as Lexi Cuter erupted with a 26-3 power jam that immediately gave the Vortex their largest lead of the night. Chippa Tooth attempted to ignite a comeback by following with an 8-0 jam, but this only made a small dent in the lead, which now stood at 89-63. The Bodies got a power jam in the next jam, but Polar Blair was only able to score 2 points, not taking full advantage of the opportunity. The Roller Vortex then followed up with back-to-back 4-0 jams to extend the lead back to 97-65. Chippa Tooth got 10 points back in the following jam, but the Bodies of Water were unable to piggyback off that to gain anymore momentum, as the following jam was 19-5 in favor of the Roller Vortex and Hot SHOCKolate. The next jam was 8-2, also favoring the Roller Vortex, which brought the score to 124-82 about midway through the half. The next two jams were low-scoring: 2-0 for the Bodies of Water was answered by 3-0 for the Roller Vortex. The Bodies had to start now if they were going to come back, and a 7-0 jam by Fanny Smack got them off on the right foot and cut the deficit to 127-91. However, they could not string together a set of big jams. The next jam was 1-0 for the Vortex, then Lexi Cuter took advantage of a power jam to put up a score of 11-3 and bring the bout to 139-94. The power jam carried into the next jam, when Hot SHOCKolate scored 4 more to further extend the lead. In the final jam, Lefse 4 Dead was sent to the box twice to give the Bodies of Water a long power jam, but Chippa Tooth could only score 12 points, putting the Bodies over the century mark but not impacting the result. The bout ended 143-106 in favor of the Roller Vortex. This moved the Vortex into sole possession of first place, which is unfamiliar territory for a team that lost all five of its bouts last season.

Bout 2: Wednesday Warnings vs Maul Rats

The night’s second bout featured the Maul Rats and the Wednesday Warnings, two teams trying to avoid an 0-2 start. Sintripetal Force opened the scoring with a 3-0 jam for the Warnings, but it was the Maul Rats who would then take control. Three straight 4-0 jams gave the Rats a 12-3 lead early in the bout. However, Sintripetal Force made up for it with a 12-0 power jam to retake the lead for the Warnings. The Maul Rats continued to get lead jams, but they were unable to capitalize, as the next jam was 0-0. In the next jam, BooBoo got lead for the Rats, but she was sent to the box, which allowed Bizzquick to score 16 points while BooBoo only scored 6. The next jam was similar, as Little Rascal got lead jam for the Maul Rats, but gave up a 4-1 jam to Major Threat. This left the score at 35-19 for the Wednesday Warnings. Then, the Warnings had back-to-back lead jams for the first time all night, as Sintripetal Force scored 3 and Lexi Cuter (wearing the #727 jersey of Hurtrude Stein) scored 8 to extend the lead to 46-19.

The next jam was one of the most eventful of the night, as both jammers were sent to the box. The Maul Rats were able to take that jam 15-4, then won the next jam 6-4 to cut the lead back down to 14 points. However, a quick 4-0 Warnings jam was followed by another jam in which both jammers were sent to the box, this time going 16-8 to Lexi Cuter. This took the Wednesday Warnings’ lead up to 74-48. The next jam saw each jammer sent to the box twice, and the lack of time for each jammer to score led to a 3-0 scoreline in favor of the Maul Rats. That was canceled out by the 3-0 jam that followed for the Wednesday Warnings, keeping the lead at 26 points. In the next jam, BooBoo was able to score 5, then called it off while on a power jam to begin the next jam with the Warnings’ jammer (Major Threat) in the box. However, this attempt to make the bout closer came to an abrupt halt when an injury to the Rats’ Pretty Rackless ended the jam, and thus, the half. At halftime, the score was 77-56 in favor of the Wednesday Warnings.

The start of the half was marked by back-to-back 3-0 jams for the Wednesday Warnings, taking the score to 83-56. The next three jams finished tied: a 4-4 jam sandwiched between two 0-0 jams. A 4-0 jam for Lexi Cuter then gave the Warnings their largest lead of the bout at 91-60. However, the Maul Rats quickly shaved that lead. An 8-0 jam for Gams and a 12-0 jam for Triple Shock Latte brought a 31-point gap down to 11 points. That didn’t last long, as successive 4-0 jams from T-Wrecks and Lexi Cuter extended the Warnings’ lead up to 99-80. The next jam, though, completely turned the tide of the bout. Little Rascal jumped out to a quick lead jam for the Maul Rats, then Wednesday Warnings jammer Major Threat was sent to the box to give the Rats a power jam. Little Rascal capitalized, electrifying the crowd with a 22-0 jam that gave the Maul Rats their first lead since early in the first half, 102-99.

The momentum completely swung in the Rats’ direction, taking lead jammer in each of the next 4 jams. The first one was 4-1, allowing the Warnings to hit the century mark, then the next three were 4-0 to make the score 118-100 and give the Maul Rats their largest lead of the bout. The Wednesday Warnings needed to stop the bleeding, and they did, as T-Wrecks scored 16 points to Velvet Wench’s 4 in the next jam to cut the deficit to 122-116. Lexi Cuter cut that lead in half with the 3-0 jam that followed. At this point, the Maul Rats were trying to kill the clock, and they were helped by a long 10-8 jam for BooBoo to extend the lead back to 5 points. They got another lead jam courtesy of Little Rascal, one that became a power jam after Lexi Cuter was sent to the box. However, Little Rascal would go to the box herself, allowing Lexi Cuter to score 12 points. Little Rascal scored 4, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Warnings from taking a 139-136 lead with 18 seconds remaining. It all came down to the final jam, which matched Triple Shock Latte against Sintripetal Force. Triple Shock Latte took lead jam for the Maul Rats, but excellent blocking from the Wednesday Warnings’ pack held her up and allowed Sintripetal Force to catch up. Triple Shock Latte couldn’t gain the 4-0 advantage needed to win the bout, so she had to play catch-up for the rest of the jam. It ultimately went 10-8 in favor of the Warnings, allowing last season’s champions to escape with a 149-144 victory. Next month, the regular season concludes with the Maul Rats facing the Bodies of Water, while the Wednesday Warnings take on the Roller Vortex.
